Release
Each raptor in our care is evaluated individually for release.
Birds are assessed to ensure that flight and hunting abilities are appropriate for their species, feather condition is healthy and that they are able to recognize and catch food. Immature raptors evaluated to ensure that they are the appropriate age to become self-sufficient.
If determined as ready for release, extensive research is conducted to identify a suitable release site that is within a 10 mile radius of the location the bird was found. This step is required by our rehabilitation permits.
Birds are banded with a unique identifier for post release monitoring and the raptor is carefully transported to the selected release site and given a second chance of freedom.
