Open Streets
Sep 15 @ 9:45 am – 3:00 pm

About: Open Streets

At Open Streets, participants can expect 1-2 miles of car-free, family-friendly streets. Participants are encouraged to Ride the Route and explore all along. Open Streets routes are generally considered walkable and bikeable, and include attractive neighborhood elements such as parks and other key destinations like churches, schools, and commercial centers.

RMRP will be at the intersection of Shields and Magnolia!

Open Streets events aim to show participants that travelling by bike, foot, scooter, and other active, car-free transportation modes can be comfortable, easy, and a healthy alternative to driving. Activities from local businesses are located throughout the event route to encourage movement along the entire route.  Participants can find activities which include live music, local food trucks, health- and wellness-inspired activities, and participant-made art! The possibilities are endless at Open Streets.

Goals of Open Streets:

  • Highlight walkable and bikeable routes by creating temporary, car-free streets for the community to walk, roll, and bike along.
  • Encourage future active transportation among participants along Open Streets routes after the event concludes.
  • Feature local businesses and organizations that support active transportation, health, wellness, and community well-being. Create opportunities to connect participants with these organizations.
  • Foster social capital by connecting neighbors with one another during the event and beyond.

Elk Festival @ Bond Park, Estes Park
Sep 28 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

WILDLIFE WATCHING
The festival coincides with the famous elk rut, or elk mating season. Wild elk are often easily seen in town and in nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. Remember elk are wild animals. Always keep a safe distance, especially from the males (bulls), which can be aggressive as they defend their females (cows) from other bulls at this time of year. Give them room – use your zoom! Learn the most important rule of safe and respectful wildlife watching.

PARKING
Elk Fest is one of Estes Park’s busiest weekends, so a little advanced planning can go a long way when it comes to getting to and around downtown. The Town offers free and paid parking options, Electric Vehicle charging stations (both Level 2 and Level 3 DFCF fast-charging stations), designated motorcycle and RV parking. Those with valid ADA placards always park for free in any public space. Visit Estes.org/Parking to find the best spot for your trip.

Want to let someone else do the driving? Head straight to the Town’s parking structure (691 N. St. Vrain) and hop on the Town’s free downtown trolley (Red Route). Trolley and special event shuttle service information can be found at Estes.org/Shuttles.
